Samoa Joe has been released by WWE just seven months after returning to the company.

For Joe, his exit completes a whirlwind nine months which saw him originally released back in April 2021. On that occasion, Joe was released alongside the likes of The IIconics and Mickie James as part of a series of budget cuts. At this point, Joe had been working as an announcer on Monday Night Raw and hadn’t wrestled since January of the previous year.
However, Joe completed a stunning return to the company just a month later. Joe later confirmed that he was asked to re-join WWE by Triple H on the same day that he was released.
Joe initially returned to the black and gold brand as an enforcer for General Manager William Regal but he quit his position on the July 27th episode of the black and gold brand.
However, his resignation served only to allow him to challenge Karrion Kross for the NXT Championship at NXT TakeOver: 36. At the event, Joe beat Kross to regain the coveted championship. Despite his victory, Joe was forced to vacate his newly won championship just days into his reign owing to an undisclosed injury.
The Samoan Submission Machine moved into a backstage role working as a scout.
Joe’s departure comes after another round of cuts which saw a number of backstage figures leave the company. Among those released were William Regal and Road Dogg. Regal had been with the WWE in some capacity since 2000, latterly working as head scout for the company under the title Director of Talent Development and Head of Global Recruiting.
