After making a shock appearance at Ring of Honor Card of Honor, Samoa Joe arrived on AEW Dynamite as a man on a mission.
On the April 6th episode of AEW Dynamite, Samoa Joe stepped into the ring for the first time in almost eight months. The former NXT Champion last competed at NXT TakeOver: 36 where he defeated Karrion Kross. While that match was also his first since February 2020.

At the event, Joe interrupted Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt’s attack on Lee Moriarty and Undisputed ROH Champion Jonathan Gresham after the main event, locking Dutt in the Coquina Clutch.
It was later confirmed by AEW President Tony Khan, that Joe was now signed to All Elite Wrestling.
On Dynamite, Joe competed in the first men’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament qualifying match against Max Caster.
On his way to the ring, in his customary rap, Caster took shots at Joe for being injury prone and his run in NXT. However, far from getting inside Joe’s head, it only served to fire up the Samoan Submission Machine. Joe peppered is younger opponent with a series of hard strikes, before hitting a huge suicide dive to the outside.
Although Caster did mount some offence, Joe quickly regained the upper hand, finishing off his rival with the Muscle Buster.
