Competing in his first singles match since 2019, Samoa Joe has defeated Karrion Kross to win his third NXT Championship at NXT TakeOver: 36.
Samoa Joe started out the match the stronger, taking the fight to the champion but Kross wasn’t about to lie down and simply accept defeat. As expected the champion fought back outside the ring throwing Joe into the barricade.
Back inside the ring, the two Superstars traded near-falls with a series of suplexes and hard strikes. Kross looked to be set for victory as he locked in the Straight Jacket which has seen off so many challengers to the crown.
However, Joe hadn’t got back in the ring to be denied and he powered out of the submission. With a new rush of adrenaline, Joe hit a top-rope enziguiri, before laying out Kross with the Muscle Buster to claim victory.

The victory completes a stunning comeback for the Samoan Submission Machine who was released by WWE on April 12th. After returning to NXT just two months later, Joe revealed that he had spoken to Triple H about a comeback on the same day that he was released.
Joe initially returned to the black and gold brand as an enforcer for General Manager William Regal but he quit his position on the July 27th episode of the black and gold brand.
However, his resignation served only to allow him to face now former NXT Champion Karrion Kross at NXT TakeOver: 36.
