Sammy Guevara Becomes Three-Time TNT Champion

AEW Tay Conti Sammy Guevara

Sammy Guevara has become TNT Champion for a record-equalling third time with a controversial win over Scorpio Sky at AEW Battle of the Belts II.

AEW’s second Battle of the Belts TNT special opened with the TNT Championship clash between Sammy Guevara and champion Scorpio Sky.

Sky had become champion by defeating Guevara on the March 9th episode of Dynamite. During the match Paige VanZant jumped the guardrail and brawled with Tay Conti at ringside, which distracted Guevara enough for Sky to take advantage and become champion.

In the weeks that followed, the two sides exchanged insults as Guevara attempted to get a rematch against Scorpio Sky. In the process, the Spanish God vandalised Sky’s car, and made some interesting claims regarding the TNT Championship belt.

At Battle of the Belts, Scorpio Sky was in control for much of the contest, grounding the high-flyer. His dominance being cemented with a TKO on the ring apron. After being hit with a series of back-breakers, Guevara rallied, much to the displeasure of the AEW faithful in attendance.

Guevara set up Sky for a 630 Splash, but Ethan Page pulled his partner from the ring. This led to Tay Conti getting into an argument with Page and Dan Lambert. After Guevara hit a shooting star press on his rivals outside the ring, Lambert distracted the referee once the action resumed inside the ropes.

As Guevara attempted an O’Connor Roll, Conti interfered, knocking Sky’s hands off the ropes. This brought out Paige VanZant to a huge ovation, who brawled with Conti.

With chaos erupting outside the ring, Guevara hit a low-blow on Sky before delivering the GTH, which earned him the win. The manor of the win appeared to signal a heel-turn for Guevara, who made out with Conti at as they headed back up the ramp.

Victory means that Guevara becomes only the second man to win the TNT Championship for a third time. The other being the Spanish God’s former rival, Cody Rhodes.
