Sammy Guevara and Tay Melo have been stripped of their AAA Mixed Tag Team Championships.
The vacation of the titles was announced during AAA’s Noche De Campeones show, which took place on December 28th. The original plan was for the couple to put the championships on the line against the teams of Lady Shani & Octagon Jr and Komander & Sexy Star II in a 3 way match.
Sammy Guevara & Tay Melo Won The AAA Mixed Tag Team Titles At TriplemanÃa XXX
AAA Head of Talent Relations Konnan would come to the ring to address the absence of the champions to the live crowd in attendance. It was announced that The Jericho Appreciation Society members had been stripped of the titles due to no-showing multiple AAA events:
“Sammy & Tay have cancelled three times, not twice. They wanted their own referee & Tay wanted her own stylist, so I have made a decision. There were three orders of business: Number One, The titles have now been vacated. Number Two: I have already sent someone to the United States to get the titles. And Number Three: Whoever wins this Triple Threat Mix Tag Match will become the new AAA Mixed Tag Champions.”
It was also announced before the match that the team replacing Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti would be Flammer & Abismo Negro Jr.
While cancelling AAA events multiple times Guevara and Melo would defend the Mixed Tag Team Titles multiple times on AEW programming. At the All Out pay-per-view, the champions would retain the titles against Ortiz and Ruby Soho in a match where Soho suffered a broken nose. Soho would return in November on AEW Dynamite, targeting Melo in the process.
While not a championship created by All Elite Wrestling, the AAA Mixed Tag Team Titles were not the only championships held by Sammy Guevara on AEW programming. The Spanish God has previously held the TNT Championship on 3 separate occasions.
