Sammy Guevara Makes Surprising Return To Help AEW Star

Sammy Guevara Issues Statement Following AEW Suspension

After nearly 6 months away, Sammy Guevara has made an onscreen appearance in a wrestling capacity.

On July 28th, Ring of Honor taped its latest show in Arlington, Texas ahead of time. Fan footage from the event sees the former TNT Champion come to the aid of Dustin Rhodes, who was being beaten down by The Dark Order. Guevara attempted to hit the GTH on John Silver before The Dark Order retreated. Guevara was wearing street clothes for the save.

Why Has Sammy Guevara Been Off TV?

Guevara’s last match was against Jeff Hardy back in February during an episode of Rampage. Fan footage from the event prior to the show airing had many expressing concern as Guevara’s knee connected with Hardy’s head following a Shooting Star Press in the match. Guevara hit a GTH onto Hardy to win the match before Matt Hardy stormed the ring immediately after to check on his brother’s safety. Hardy suffered a broken nose in the contest and was checked out for possible concussions afterwards. This was also Jeff Hardy’s final match in the company.

Due to Sammy Guevara not following concussion protocol in the match, the AEW star was suspended for a second time following a suspension back in 2020 when comments about Mercedes Mone from a 2016 podcast resurfaced, which saw Guevara make extremely inappropriate comments about the current TBS Champion.

Guevara’s suspension was reportedly lifted weeks before the ROH return but Guevara had not appeared as there were no plans for him at that point. Guevara’s wife Tay Melo has also teased an in-ring comeback soon after taking time away to give birth to their first child.

With rumours surrounding Sammy Guevara’s return, clarification has been provided.
