Sammy Guevara has elaborated on the injury that kept him out of action for nearly 3 months.
Guevara last competed at the WrestleDream pay-per-view on October 1st, teaming with Will Ospreay and Konosuke Takeshita to defeat Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi. The former TNT Champion was notable by his absence in the following weeks, with Powerhouse Hobbs competing in matches instead of Guevara. It was later reported that Sammy Guevara was out of action as he suffered a concussion at the AEW pay-per-view.
Speaking with Chris Van Vliet, Guevara revealed that the spot where he suffered the concussion was when he performed a cutter in the match and it took him a few days to realise that something was wrong:
I’m cleared, I’m good. That was crazy. You know, I do the cutter so much and it’s the stupidest thing. Oh, this cutter that I do all the time, this time just bumped my head on the canvas, and then saw the future. And if you go back there, you can tell like, okay, maybe he’s not good. But I didn’t know at that time. I actually thought that they had a match booked for me that Wednesday, I thought I was good. And then it was until like, a couple of days later I was like really feeling it. And then Tay contacted the doctor.
Guevara continued, stating that although he was not dizzy or nauseous, bright lights were giving him headaches:
[Were you dizzy?] No. Just like the lights are bothering me. [Were you throwing up?] No, no, thankfully, it wasn’t like that. But I had a headache and stuff and it was like the lights were bothering me. Like bright lights. Like my future is bright. But yeah, then they obviously took me off and let me chill and send me to some people to see. But yeah, that was like probably the longest I’ve been out of wrestling so far, it’s been since October 1.
Guevara made his return to AEW programming on the December 27th broadcast of Dynamite, confronting The Don Callis Family before being saved by Jericho, Darby Allin and Sting. On the following episode of Rampage, Sammy Guevara buried the hatchet with Chris Jericho to reform Le Sex Gods.
Sammy Guevara Recalls Memorable Match With No Fans
During the COVID-19 pandemic, wrestling promotions were forced to be creative to create entertaining content while still adhering to restrictions and social distancing. Many fans fondly remember the first Stadium Stampede match, in which the former TNT Champion featured heavily. During the same interview, Sammy Guevara detailed the original plans for his involvement in the Stadium Stampede match at Double or Nothing 2020.
