Sami Zayn Thought He Had Heat With The WWE Locker Room

Sami Zayn on SmackDown

Sami Zayn is one of the most popular WWE Superstars in the entire company. His growth over the last year has been likened to Daniel Bryan’s rise to prominence in 2015. Like Bryan’s fandom, the WWE Universe gravitated to Zayn due to his likability and reliability.

One of Zayn’s most enduring traits is his charity work. In 2017, Zayn launched the Sami For Syria project. The charity saw Zayn team up with the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) Foundation to raise money and awareness in order to provide life-saving medical care to conflict-affected populations in northwest Syria.

Since launching the project has raised over $128,000 and funded two mobile medical clinics. However, before launching the charity, Zayn checked with fellow philanthropist Titus O’Neil whether it would get him any heat.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio the former Prime Time Player revealed how this current era of wrestlers is making positive and inspirational movements beyond WWE. He especially spoke about Zayn and his foundation.

“I’m so glad now that this generation of WWE superstars are taking the mantle of being able to control their own narrative outside of the company and really want to make an inspirational and inspiring change on their own, using their own platform, motivating people to do XYZ, taking chances to do things.

Sami Zayn is one of the hottest things in pro wrestling and has been for several months. I remember Sami calling me and going, ‘Hey man, I want to run something by you.’ This is when he wanted to do his project in Syria. ‘Do you think I would get any heat?’ He ran it by me, explained everything, and asked, ‘Do you think I would get any heat for doing so?’ I said, ‘if anybody gives you heat for trying to do something that makes a significant and positive change for something you believe in, then you don’t need to be working at this company.

I’ve always felt that way. If you don’t believe what I’m doing to help other people, not only in conjunction with our WWE community team, but separately from that, then this isn’t going to be the place to work for me.

Instead of drawing heat he instead drew support. Several other Superstars such as Becky Lynch, Seth Rollins, Bayley, IYO SKY, Dakota Kai and many more have supported Zayn’s cause.

Who Will Sami Zayn Face At WrestleMania?

Failing in his quest to usurp Roman Reigns as the Head of the Table and Undisputed Universal Champion, Zayn finds himself without a clear path to Hollywood. Seemingly stuck in between a feud/friendship with the Usos and Kevin Owens, Zayn could be headed for one of the most highly-anticipated tag team matches in WrestleMania history.
