Despite riding high as arguably the most popular star in wrestling, Sami Zayn just can’t catch a break.
Zayn rode an incredible wave of fan support into Elimination Chamber in his hometown of Montreal, Canada, but ended up coming short in the main event. Not that Roman Reigns retained his Undisputed WWE Universal Title with any kind of ease, Zayn pushed him all of the way, and even had the match won before fate, and The Bloodline intervened.
The show went off the air with Zayn standing tall after Kevin Owens returned to take out Reigns, Paul Heyman, and Jimmy Uso.
Fast forward to Monday Night Raw, and many, including Zayn, were hoping that the two men would now unite to bring down The Bloodline. However, that wasn’t to be the case, with Owens suggesting that Zayn should go and talk to his “buddy” Jey Uso instead.
Speaking in a WWE digital exclusive interview filmed after Raw, Zayn said that he’s come to realise that victory at Elimination Chamber was not the be-all and end-all.
“I have to focus on the fact that this is not the end, I kept putting it in my head that this [beating Reigns in Montreal] was the way to finish the story. But, it never ends. For me, it’s not the end. When I started to realize that this is not how the story finishes, it makes me feel better.”
With regard to Owens, Zayn said that the situation is definitely complicated, but their story isn’t over.
There are hurt feelings…definitely on his side, I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t complicated on my side. I just recognize the situation here. Look, for better or for worse, we needed each other our whole careers — to lift each other up. Even when we were on the opposite side of the fence, we always brought out the best in each other. We were always able to accomplish things because of the other’s existence.
If he’s as dedicated as I am, to ensure the end of The Bloodline, I know the only way to get it done is together,” Zayn stressed. “It doesn’t seem like he wants to go there…I don’t know. I don’t know. This is an unfinished story.”
Will Sami Zayn Main Event WrestleMania?
Despite the hopes of many fans, it seems that Sami Zayn won’t be appearing in the main event of WrestleMania 39. A recent report concerning the booking plans for the show suggested that the headline bout will be between Roman reigns and Cody Rhodes.
