Sami Zayn is set for a historic match at WWE Night of Champions when he teams with Kevin Owens to defend the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships against the team of Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa.
This will mark the first time Zayn wrestles in Saudi Arabi since WWE struck a ten-year deal to hold multiple high profile events in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia back in 2017. While Zayn did compete in Saudi Arabia back in 2014, his Syrian heritage prevented him from competing there again due to animosity between Saudi Arabia and Syria. However, with Syria recently being readmitted into the Arab League, Zayn traveled along with his fellow Superstars to be part of the blockbuster match at Night of Champions.
This will also mark Kevin Owens’ first time competing in Saudi Arabia since his participation in the Greatest Royal Rumble in 2018.
The journey is not only special for Zayn because of what he hopes to accomplish in the ring; it also afforded him the opportunity to visit the Islamic holy city of Mecca for the first time in his life.
A vlog chronicling his journey was posted on WWE’s YouTube channel and shows the star struggling to find words for how important this moment is to him. Both of Zayn’s parents are Syrian immigrants to Canada, and he is of the Muslim faith. He expressed gratitude for his career in WWE allowing him to have so many special experiences in his life.
Sami Zayn Refelcted On His Trip To Mecca On Social Media
Taking to social media, Zayn posted photos of his visit and called the experience “at the top of the list” of things he’s gotten to experience in WWE.
“Being a pro wrestler and being with WWE has taken me to places I never dreamed I’d get to see and do things I never thought I’d get to do. It has provided me a life filled with incredible experiences that I will cherish forever. This one is at the top of the list. الحمدلله”
