An update has emerged on the current status of Sami Zayn after he was seen on WWE programming wearing a sling.
When Sami Zayn appeared on last Friday’s broadcast of Friday Night SmackDown, many fans were concerned when ‘The Master Strategist’ adorned a sling. Zayn confronted Mr Money in the Bank Theory on the episode, with his sling going unmentioned.
Per Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Zayn is indeed injured, though it’s labelled as “not major” with the general consensus being that he’ll hopefully be able to “wrestle in a few weeks”.
It’s unknown how, exactly, Sami Zayn suffered the injury, but his involvement in the men’s Money in the Bank match seems to be the likely bet. Zayn hasn’t wrestled since then, making it the obvious place of injury.
This isn’t the first time the former ‘Generic Luchador’ has damaged his arm, either. Zayn was scheduled to become a full-time main roster Superstar after accepting John Cena’s open challenge in May 2015, but he suffered a torn rotator cuff, leading to him being absent from television for the majority of the year. He remained in NXT upon his return.
Originally signing with WWE in January 2013, Sami Zayn is nearing his decade anniversary with the company. Despite speculation that he would be AEW-bound this year, it was confirmed in January that he’d signed a multi-year deal with WWE.
Although he’s currently out of action, Sami Zayn was recently a guest on ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Sessions, which premiered on the WWE Network today (22 July).
