Since reuniting, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens have been riding high on a wave of fan support and in-ring momentum.
The long-time friends got back on the same page in the lead-up to WrestleMania 39 and triumphed in the main event of night one against The Usos to win the Undisputed Tag Team Titles.
However, despite their emotional victory, their issues with The Bloodline appear far from over.
On the April 10th episode of Monday Night Raw, Kevin Owens met Solo Sikoa in the main event. Naturally, The Usos were at ringside and helped The Bloodline’s enforcer pick up the win. After the match, the trio attacked Owens but were eventually run off by Sami Zayn and Matt Riddle who arrived just in time to save the day.
While the moment was cheered to the rafters by fans, former WWE writer Vince Russo has dismissed Zayn’s performance. Appearing on Sportskeeda’s Legion of RAW, Russo said that the run-in was let down by Zayn’s punches meaning the action looked “phony.”
“I know Sami Zayn used to be El Generico. I think I worked with Sami Zayn once or twice when he was at TNA when he was El Generico. Here’s what I know, he’s been doing this for a very long time. They do this big run in at the end because Kevin Owens their buddy is getting pumped. Sami Zayn is throwing punches like a girl.
I am a guy watching a television show, they are beating you best friend to a pulp, you guys come running through the parking garage like Superman and Batman side by side and the minute you get out in the arena, you’re gonna start giving rabbit punches to the side of the head.
I would love to know the excuse for that because the second you throw that first rabbit punch that wouldn’t hurt a fly, you’ve lost me. Now it’s fake, now it’s phony, just like I thought it was. Look at the punches Sami Zayn is throwing, you’ve got to be better than that,”
Sami Zayn Almost Missed WWE Raw
The April 10th episode of Raw was heavily impacted by travel problems, and it was reported that just before the show went live 50% of the roster wasn’t at the arena.
After the show, it was revealed that Zayn and Riddle only made it to the taping during the third hour. Their on-screen run-in through the parking lot and to the ring mirrored the chaos around their real-life arrival.
