Brian Gewirtz, a former head writer for WWE and now an executive for The Rock and Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions, clarified that the delayed release of the WrestleMania XL documentary is not due to The Rock “holding hostage” the project, as initially speculated.
The documentary, which was initially set to premiere on Wednesday, April 10th, following WrestleMania 40, remains unreleased, prompting speculation and concern among fans.
Gewirtz addressed the delay during an appearance on The Ringer’s Masked Man Show, attributing it to an error in promoting the documentary too soon, emphasising that it wasn’t ready for release at the time of the initial announcement.
There is, believe it or not, there is an awesome doc that WWE… The Rock isn’t holding hostage until he has approval of every frame… Jesus. But there was, I think there was an error in terms of promoting it so soon because it wasn’t ready to come out. So, that was an error that was made.
He reassured fans that the documentary has evolved from its original 11-minute format to over an hour in length, promising an “awesome” viewing experience once it’s ready. Gewirtz hinted that the documentary will be available “in some form” pretty soon, despite the exact release date remaining unknown.
But this was a doc that I think went from 11 minutes to 45 minutes, now it’s over an hour. And it’s pretty awesome, and it will be coming out in some form pretty soon, is my understanding.
Additionally, in the same interview, Gewirtz discussed Seven Bucks’ “Who Killed WCW” series, which is coming to Vice TV.
What Is The Premiere Date For The Rock’s New WCW Documentary?
The Rock’s new WCW documentary is set to premiere on June 4th, 2024. The documentary has been described as a series that will “explore the complex factors that led to the promotion’s downfall, including management challenges, creative decisions, and the intense competition during the infamous Monday Night Wars.”
