Rumour Killer On Shane McMahon Potentially Competing At WrestleMania 38

Shane McMahon

Shane McMahon is rumoured to be in town for WrestleMania 38 weekend, but don’t expect the former WWE official to be wrestling.

Despite being released from WWE at the start of February, it appears Shane McMahon could be back with WWE sooner rather than later. PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that the former SmackDown Commissioner will be in town for WrestleMania 38 weekend, but Dave Meltzer has provided an update on his WrestleMania status on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio:

“Yeah so I mean, here’s the deal…he was going to go [to WrestleMania] no matter what. He goes to the Hall of Fame, every single Hall of Fame, of course he is at the Hall of Fame, and so of course he was going to go with Vince [McMahon] inducting The Undertaker in the Hall of Fame.”

Continuing, Meltzer explained how Shane McMahon’s name hasn’t even been brought up by WWE’s creative team since January:

“Now there’s always the chance that Vince is kayfabing everyone and there is going to be something but I’ve been told, and this was by multiple people who are pretty high on the food chain, and look, you never know 100% because its wrestling and Vince can change everything but as far as Shane McMahon on WrestleMania or something like that – on the creative team, his name has not been spoken about since January and it has never been brought up.

They are under the impression that he is just going to the Hall of Fame and he is going to hang out at WrestleMania like he does every single year and it’s a non-story that people are making too much of it”

Shane McMahon last appeared on WWE programming when he entered as the surprise twenty-eighth entrant in the 2022 men’s Royal Rumble match. The former SmackDown Tag Team Champion lasted just five-and-a-half minutes in the match, but he still managed to dump ex-foe Kevin Owens out of the ring, while ending up in the final three alongside Brock Lesnar and Drew McIntyre.

McMahon’s experience at the Rumble was controversial. He served as a producer for the match, booking a lot of the later stages around himself while burying veteran producer Jamie Noble, and thus received a ton of heat from the WWE locker room. Shane’s stint at the Rumble resulted in him being shockingly let go from WWE, despite his personal ties to the company.

As reported by Dave Meltzer on a prior Wrestling Observer Radio, McMahon was previously slated to wrestle Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins at WrestleMania 38. Rollins is now expected to battle a returning Cody Rhodes, although Shane has been teased as Seth’s ‘Mania adversary on Twitter by ‘The Visionary’ himself.
