Rumour Killer On Events Concerning AEW Star Sammy Guevara’s Return

Sammy Guevara Comments On His Injury Status

The circumstances regarding Sammy Guevara’s return are not related to previous events.

At a Ring of Honor taping on July 28th, Sammy Guevara made his return to TV for the first time in nearly 6 months to save Dustin Rhodes from a beatdown from The Dark Order. With the former TNT Champion previously being a mainstay on Dynamite and known as one of the “4 pillars” of All Elite Wrestling, fans were somewhat surprised when Guevara’s return took place on ROH, the secondary brand to AEW TV.

One theory circulating online is that the signing of Mercedes Mone, who joined the company while Guevara was serving his second suspension, played a part in the return. Back in 2016, Guevara appeared on a podcast and made extremely inappropriate comments about the TBS Champion that were of a sexual nature. The comments resurfaced in 2020 and resulted in Guevara serving the first of his 2 suspensions and being forced to go to sensitivity training. While it has been speculated that Mone’s presence has been a factor in Guevara’s plans, this is reportedly not the case.

“There Was An Aspect Of The Storyline He [Sammy Guevara] Was Not Cool With”: Bryan Alvarez

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez detailed the real reason behind the return:

“I know that everybody has immediately jumped to the following conclusion [that] he was moved to Ring of Honor because Mercedes Mone is on the main AEW television show.” Alvarez continued, “I was told that him being on Ring of Honor has absolutely nothing to do with Mercedes.

I mentioned that to some people and they were like, ‘There’s no way, it has to be.’ All I can tell you is this, “Sammy has been ready to go for a little while and they did have a storyline for Sammy Guevara that would have brought him back to the main roster…But there was an aspect of the storyline that he was not cool with. I think it involved him turning heel and he didn’t want to turn heel, whatever it was.

They did have a storyline and they decided well, he doesn’t want to do that aspect of the storyline [and] so they ended up coming up with a storyline where he’s a babyface in Ring of Honor. So, there were plans to bring him back to the main roster when Mercedes Mone was there and it didn’t happen. So, I’m sure he’ll be back on the main roster. I would bet you anything that by the end of the year he’s back doing Dynamite, Collision, etc.”

Previous reports indicated that Sammy Guevara’s suspension ended a considerable time before his return to TV but there were delays due to storyline reasons.
