Ruby Soho Explains When She Found Out She Was In The AEW Grand Slam Main Event

Ruby Soho locking in a submission on Britt Baker

Ruby Soho has detailed when she found out she was set to headline the historic AEW Dynamite Grand Slam event and says being part of AEW makes her “heart happy.”

The former Ruby Riott stunned the wrestling world when she made her All Elite Wrestling debut at All Out as the Joker in the women’s Casino Battle Royale match. The match came down to Soho and Thunder Rosa for the chance to challenge Dr Britt Baker DMD for her AEW Women’s World Championship. In the end, Soho won and got her title match on the biggest episode of AEW Dynamite to date.

AEW Dynamite Grand Slam was held in Arthur Ashe Stadium, New York in front of 20,000 fans. Despite coming up short in her title match, Ruby Soho was delighted to find out she and Baker would be the night’s main event.

Speaking exclusively to Inside The Ropes’ very own Kenny McIntosh, Ruby Soho detailed finding out on the day of the show that she and Baker were bringing the curtain down for AEW at their historic show:

“I found out when I got there. I found out when I got there and I looked at the card. I was like, hold on. I’m trying to find a match after us, and there’s not one. I’m like oh my God, and I am staring at it for an absurdly long time, I’m like this has got to be some sort of typo, there’s no way.”

“I had seen the other matches on the card and I was blown away. I double-checked, I was like ‘Tony [Khan] are we the main?’ He was like ‘Yep, main event.’ It was at that point, at that moment where I was like I don’t know how much more my heart can take. I’ve been here for 3 weeks, I’m able to debut on our most historic pay-per-view that we have ever had.”

The two women faced some stiff competition for the main event as the night also saw Malakai Black face Cody Rhodes, Sting compete in tag team action with Darby Allin, and the dream match between Bryan Danielson and Kenny Omega take place.

For Ruby Soho though she can say she headlined Arthur Ashe Stadium just weeks after coming into the promotion:

“By the way, I love saying we when I talk about AEW, it makes my heart happy. But now, on a card of legendary performers, I get the honour of having my very first title match as the main event of our biggest Dynamite to date. This was the first time that wrestling had been performed in that building.”

“It happened already and I am still in disbelief because it has just been one amazing thing after the other, I don’t know how we are going to top this. Now we have the TBS Women’s Championship and I’m like OK, I guess it’s just another amazing milestone that I get to be a part of. I just feel crazy, crazy lucky Kenny to be a part of this and to be a part of these monumental moments in AEW’s history, I’m just very grateful.”

Ruby Soho also discussed what it’s like working for AEW President Tony Khan, someone she refers to as the “best boss.”
