Ronda Rousey was last seen in the ring on the December 30th edition of SmackDown where Charlotte Flair handed her a shocking loss.
With the defeat, Rousey also lost the SmackDown Women’s Championship she had held since Extreme Rules.
Many expected The Baddest Woman On The Planet to rally and enter the 2023 Royal Rumble, however, the event came and went with no sign of the winner of the 2022 edition of the annual spectacular.
Ronda Rousey wants Tag Team Championships
In a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer shed some light on WWE’s plans for Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 39, saying that one of the matches “locked in” for the event will see her team with Shayna Baszler to challenge IYO SKY and Dakota Kai for the Women’s Tag Team Championships.
Now, speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer has gone one step further, saying that Rousey has “always wanted” to be a tag team champion alongside Baszler, so plans were made for it to happen.
“Ronda then decided she wanted to be a tag team champion with Shayna Baszler because she’s always wanted to do that run, so she will do that run.”
For her part, Rousey has been open about her desire to compete in the tag team division on a regular basis for a number of months. Speaking after her defeat to Flair, the star claimed that she was “tired” of The Queen and wanted to “take over” the tag team division.
Rousey has been in an on-screen partnership with real-life friend Shayna Baszler for a number of months.
The former UFC star has a mixed record at WrestleMania where she won on her debut in 2018. However, since then she lost to Becky Lynch in a Triple Threat Match in 2019 and lost to Charlotte Flair in 2022.
