Ronda Rousey’s loss of the SmackDown Women’s Championship on the final episode of WWE SmackDown in 2022 came as a surprise to many fans. The Baddest Woman on the Planet had held the title for several months, and many had expected her to continue her reign into WrestleMania. However, the returning Charlotte Flair defeated Rousey in an impromptu match and claimed the title for herself.
As is customary in WWE, many fans are now eagerly anticipating a rematch between the two rivals, but it seems that Rousey has other plans for her future in the company.
Ronda Rousey “Tired” Of SmackDown Women’s Title
In her most recent YouTube game stream video, “The Baddest Stream on the Planet,” Rousey spoke candidly about her future plans in WWE. When asked by a fan when she would take back the title from Flair, Rousey responded:
“I don’t know guys, I’m tired of Charlotte. I’m tired of that title. I already did it, you know.
Instead, Rousey revealed that she is considering switching her focus from the SmackDown Women’s Championship to the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. She hinted that her potential partner for this venture could be her close friend and onscreen associate Shayna Baszler.
Rousey’s decision to focus on the Women’s Tag Team Championship is perhaps not surprising, as the division has seen a resurgence in recent months since Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai of Damage CTRL won the titles. Many fans have been calling for more emphasis to be placed on the women’s tag team division, so Rousey’s decision to focus on this area of the company could help to further grow and promote the women’s doubles ranks.
Rousey and Baszler have a long history of working together, both in and out of the ring. They have been friends for many years stemming back to their UFC days. Their chemistry would make them a formidable team and could help to put the Women’s Tag Team Championship on the map.
It will be interesting to see how Rousey’s decision to focus on the tag division will play out in the coming months and whether WWE is willing to let one of it’s most highly-paid assets become a tag team act rather than a singles star.
