Ronda Rousey WrestleMania Match Scrapped

In early March it was revealed that Ronda Rousey’s WrestleMania plans had shifted significantly from what was originally scheduled.

The report from WrestlingNewsPremium noted that the star was originally penciled in to face Rhea Ripley for the SmackDown Women’s Title. However, due to Rousey wanting to win the Women’s Tag Team Titles these plans were changed.

Instead, Rousey lost the SmackDown Women’s Title to Charlotte Flair, leading to a match being made between The Queen and Ripley. For Rousey, she would then team with Shayna Baszler to win the Women’s Tag Team Titles at WrestleMania, although the latter hadn’t officially been announced.

The story got a further wrinkle when it was revealed that the former UFC star is currently dealing with an injury, although she was still expected to compete at WrestleMania 39 as planned.

Despite this, it has now been reported that the planned tag team match has been scrapped. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has noted that the match is now off, but Rousey is still expected to compete at the show.

Ronda Rousey Injured

On the March 3rd episode of SmackDown, the star had been due to team with Shayna Baszler to take on Natalya and Tegan Nox. However, the match was changed to a singles bout between Baszler and Nox after Rousey was involved in a brawl backstage. The star later accompanied Baszler to the ring with her arm in a make-shift sling.

It has since been reported that Rousey is dealing with a hairline fracture in her arm.
