WWE have announced that SmackDown Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey has suffered a serious injury.
On the June 10th episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Ronda Rousey came to the ring to address her new number one contender Natalya. The veteran had won a six-pack challenge the week before to earn a shot at Rousey’s title at Money In The Bank.
In the promo, Rousey ran down Natalya, even mocking her Sharpshooter, claiming that it was just a rip off from her uncle Bret Hart.
With Rousey in full-flow, Shotzi came to the ring and bartered herself in a SmackDown Women’s Title match right there and then. Despite Shotzi’s confidence, the former UFC star picked up the win in a little over seven minutes.
However, after the bell, Natalya took her opportunity to strike and jumped Rousey from behind, before locking in the Sharpshooter. Despite pleading from referees, the Queen of Harts refused to relinquish the hold, although she did eventually leave the champion in a crumpled heap.
Later on in the show, Ronda Rousey was shown getting treatment from doctors, and it was announced that she suffered a “serious injury,” and was now a doubt for Money In The Bank. There is no word on how much time Rousey will miss, although it’s unlikely the injury legitimate and is simply to further her storyline with Natalya.
Ronda Rousey won the SmackDown Women’s Championship at WrestleMania Backlash where she defeated Charlotte Flair.
