Ronda Rousey Heading To NXT?

Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey could follow in the footsteps of Seth Rollins and head to NXT in the coming weeks.

In recent months WWE has used an increasing number of main roster stars in NXT with the likes of Dana Brooke, Mustafa Ali, and Baron Corbin becoming regulars. However, this strategy went to a new level on June 20th when Seth Rollins defended the World Heavyweight Championship in the show’s main event against Bron Breaker.

In a boost for WWE, Rolllins’ return to the brand was hugely popular with viewers and saw NXT draw an impressive rating, both in terms of total viewers and in the 18-49-year-old demographic.

Reporting in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that there are plans for more stars to follow Rollins into NXT, and one of the names mentioned was that of Ronda Rousey.

“There are plans for more major stars to work NXT like Rollins did this week. One name that was at least talked about was Rousey, or perhaps even having Rousey & Baszler defend the women’s tag titles there. But the goal is to use the main roster stars to increase the ratings, and the Rollins experiment was a huge success, so when something works in wrestling the idea is that you usually follow up on it.”

Ronda Rousey Blasted WWE After Winning Gold

In the aftermath of winning the Women’s Tag Team Titles back in May, Ronda Rousey launched a scathing attack on WWE and the women’s division. The former MMA star said there was a lack of competition, describing the tag team division as “dismally shallow.”

Rousey added that the biggest challenge that she and Baszler face is to get the “company to actually care” about the division.
