A new report has claimed that WWE are planning a major match for Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair to clash at WrestleMania 38.
Ronda Rousey hasn’t set foot in a WWE ring since April 7th, 2019 at WrestleMania 35 where she was defeated in Triple Threat action by Becky Lynch who captured both Raw and SmackDown Women’s Championships with the win in a match that also featured Charlotte Flair.
It was first reported on Fightful Select that WWE is discussing the possibility of the former Raw Women’s Champion returning to the ring at the Royal Rumble. The report notes that it’s a “poorly kept secret” at this point and has even been mentioned to those outside the company.
The Wrestling Observer followed up on that and reported that Rousey is “definitely on the books” for an appearance at WrestleMania 38, three years after she last graced The Grandest Stage Of Them All. The report adds that if The Most Dangerous Unarmed Woman in the world returns at the Rumble then this could set up her WrestleMania appearance.
In a new update on plans for Rousey, the Wrestling Observer has claimed that her planned opponent is current SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair.
The report went on to note that Rousey will have a “substantial run” in WWE as part of the SmackDown roster, and her deal will see her being in the company until WrestleMania 39 in 2023.
Adding her to SmackDown is seemingly to “throw a bone” to Fox, who wanted both Rousey and Brock Lesnar to make regular appearances on the blue brand.
There has been no official confirmation from WWE or Rousey that the former UFC Champion will return at the Royal Rumble, but anything can happen.
