Ronda Rousey has given her thoughts on the backstage unrest in AEW, questioning whether everything that’s been reported is real.
Since AEW All Out on September 4th the wrestling world has been wrapped up in what may, or may not have happened following the post-show media scrum.
At the press conference CM Punk famously hit out at the situation surrounding his former friend Colt Cabana, the Young Bucks, Kenny Omega and Hangman Adam Page. During the whole tirade AEW President Tony Khan was sat just feet from his then-World Champion.
Once Punk got backstage a melee ensued involving The Elite and a number of prominent company figures. When all was said and done an investigation was set up, all involved were suspended and two of the promotion’s championships, including the World Title were declared vacant.
During a recent gaming stream, WWE star Ronda Rousey was asked what she thought of the situation in AEW. The former SmackDown Women’s Champion questioned whether there was even a real fight, before wondering if at least some of the incident and fall-out was a “work.”
“Was there a real fight?” Rousey asked. “Everything is all hearsay. I don’t know what to say. I wasn’t there when it happened.”
“I know I didn’t see it, but are you sure it’s not, you know, a work?”
The ramifications of the backstage brawl are still being felt with the Young Bucks, Ace Steel and Kenny Omega still suspended. Furthermore it has recently be reported that CM Punk could be on his way out of the company altogether, with a contract buyout looking increasingly likely.
