With the Royal Rumble moving into view attention is already beginning to turn to WrestleMania 39 in Inglewood, California. Naturally this has led to huge amounts of speculation around the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and his role at the event.
It has long-been rumoured that Reigns will be facing Dwayne Johnson in a huge main event clash, although there is yet to be any confirmation that the Hollywood megastar will be involved. The belief that this match is being set up was only strengthened by reports that the idea of Johnson appearing at the Royal Rumble had been discussed. Interestingly, it appears as though there have also been conversations about Reigns having two matches at the Showcase of the Immortals.
Roman Reigns Potentially Pulling Double Duty
Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that there have been discussions about Roman Reigns wrestling on both nights of the extravaganza. This could lead to matches against Cody Rhodes and The Rock, with the World Titles being split up once again. However, the report also states that there is a good chance that this won’t happen.
“One of the things talked about internally in WWE is for Reigns to wrestle both nights at Mania, with the working ideas being Cody Rhodes and Dwayne Johnson. Nothing is definite and actually today the best bet is that it won’t take place like that. There is also talk of splitting up the titles so Raw has a world champion after Mania.”
It was recently reported that Roman Reigns could be heading for a clash with Kevin Owens at the Royal Rumble before taking on Sami Zayn at Elimination Chamber a month later.
Roman Reigns has held both the Universal and WWE Championships since defeating Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38. Although there were plans heading into Clash At The Castle to separate the titles once more, the decision was made to keep the unified championship on Reigns.
