Roman Reigns has competed against a plethora of top WWE figures during his past two-year run as ‘The Head of the Table’. From WWE Hall of Famers such as Edge and Goldberg to modern-day WWE megastars like Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley, many have tried and ultimately failed to topple Reigns.
The first to etch their name onto that list, however, was Jey Uso, Roman Reigns’ real-life cousin. Reigns and Uso first collided at the 2020 Clash of Champions pay-per-view, concluding in a Roman Reigns victory via technical knockout.
Roman Reigns Was Nervous Before Facing Jey Uso
In a new interview with The Ringer, the reigning Undisputed WWE Universal Champion revealed that, ahead of his first clash vs. ‘Main Event Jey’, he was exceptionally nervous, wanting every aspect of the match to head in the right direction:
“I’ve never been so nervous for anybody I’ve been in the ring with. I want everybody to do good, but I’m not going to lower myself. I’m going to make everything look awesome as much as I can. So you have to keep up. At the end of the day, you have to be able to work up to this level and not seem out of place. And he didn’t, man, in so many ways.”
Roman Reigns’ victory over Jey Uso came as Jey’s brother Jimmy threw the towel in for his twin, coming while Reigns was in the midst of beating Jey within an inch of his life. This ended the well-received nearly twenty-three minute clash.
Now over 800 days into his run with the Universal Championship, Roman Reigns – who added the WWE Championship to his trophy cabinet at WrestleMania 38 – awaits his next contender with the 2023 Royal Rumble the next scheduled premium live event. That goes down on Saturday, January 28, with no indication that Reigns will defend his championships before then.
