The latest episode of NBC’s Young Rock has got wrestling fans talking after it heavily teased a clash between The Rock and Roman Reigns at WrestleMania.
The episode in question was set in 1996, around the time that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson began his wrestling training under the guidance of his father Rocky Johnson. However, there was one scene in particular which has caught the attention of fans around the world.
In the scene, Johnson is shown watching the 1996 Royal Rumble alongside his extended family as they cheer on Yokozuna. In amongst the action, a child jumps on Johnson asking someone hit him with a Samoan Drop, just as they had seen Yokozuna do on television. The child then looks straight down the camera and pleads “acknowledge me.”
In the voice over given by present day, mega star, The Rock, he explains that the child is his cousin Joe, who will go on to become Roman Reigns.
As baby Roman traps a slightly less baby Rock in a headlock, he implores his cousin to wrestle with him. Johnson responds that “the world is not ready, a match that big can only happen at WrestleMania.”

It has long been suggested that The Rock and Roman Reigns will meet on WWE’s biggest stage, in what would be one of the most talked about matches in history. While there were reports that the bout could have happened as early as WrestleMania 38, it quickly became apparent that Reigns would instead face Brock Lesnar at the spectacular.
At WrestleMania, Reigns defeated Lesnar to become the Undisputed Universal Champion. However, reports of a future match with The Rock continue to swirl. It was recently noted that current plans for WrestleMania 39 in Inglewood, California feature Reigns taking on The Rock.
