At WWE Survivor Series, Roman Reigns led The Bloodline to victory as they took on the team of The Brawling Brutes, Drew McIntyre, and Kevin Owens, who was revealed as the babyface team’s fifth member on the November 18th episode of WWE SmackDown.
The bout was highly praised by fans for its storytelling, weaving a tale of Sami Zayn‘s alliance to The Bloodline in spite of longtime friend Kevin Owens being on the opposite team. In the end, Zayn proved his loyalty to Roman Reigns and The Bloodline, first stopping the referee from counting as Owens had Reigns pinned, and later hitting a low blow on Owens that allowed Reigns to pin him and secure the victory for his team inside WarGames.
Roman Reigns Was “Heated” After A Spot With Kevin Owens Went Awry
Despite the WWE Survivor Series bout receiving massive praise, one spot didn’t go to plan as revealed in a recent report from Fightful Select. According to the report, Reigns potentially suffered a ruptured eardrum and lashed out in an “expletive-filled” rant, though no physical altercation took place between him and Owens and it was said to be a “heat of the moment” reaction.
Now, a report from Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer sheds more light on the situation, confirming the previous report and adding that Reigns’ potential injury was the result of a slap from Owens. The report also adds that everything was calmed down within 20 minutes.
“Regarding the report on what happened backstage with Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens. The story is accurate in the sense Reigns got upset after being popped, and had noticeable bruising under his left eye. There was talk of a possible broken eardrum but that was not confirmed to us. What is confirmed is that it came from a slap by Owens, Reigns was upset, but 20 minutes later it had all blown over so there is no lingering issue regarding it.”
Elsewhere on Survivor Series, Austin Theory captured the United States Championship in a match with Seth Rollins and Bobby Lashley. The show also saw the return of Becky Lynch as part of Team Belair, who defeated Team Bayley in the opening match.
