The December 30th episode of Friday Night SmackDown was all about the return of John Cena to team with Kevin Owens as the pair took on Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn.
Although Cena and Owens have been at odds previously they found themselves with a common enemy in Roman Reigns and The Bloodline. However, heading into the match seeds of discontent were being sown between Reigns and Zayn with Paul Heyman commenting that the optics of Zayn being cheered over the Tribal Chief weren’t great. Despite this, Reigns himself insisted that there were no issues.
Roman Reigns And Sami Zayn Lose Out
Unsurprisingly John Cena entered to a monster reaction from the crowd for what was his first WWE appearance in more than a year. Although he had to wait a long time to get in on the action with Reigns and Zayn isolating Owens. By the time Owens tried to tag Cena in, the 16-time World Champion was taken out by Reigns. KO fought back, again going for the tag but Cena was still down, this left the Raw star to fight off Reigns. The Tribal Chief attempted to take out Owens with a Spear but missed, meaning Cena could finally be tagged into the match.
Joining the action to huge cheer, Cena attacked both Zayn and Reigns, hitting a double 5-Knuckle Shuffle with Owns on the pair. Cena hit Reigns with an Attitude Adjustment, leaving Owens to hit Zayn with a Stunner to grab the win.
Elsewhere on the show, Ronda Rousey lost her SmackDown Women’s Title to a returning Charlotte Flair. The former UFC star had already defeated Raquel Rodriguez, but couldn’t turn down the challenge from Flair.
With regard to John Cena it has also been reported that he is heading for a huge first-time-ever bout at WrestleMania 39.
