Roman Reigns proved he is a changed man on SmackDown as he told his former Shield brother Seth Rollins that the trademark Shield fist bump is now “beneath” him.
The January 7th episode of SmackDown proved to be a show of surprises, with Royal Rumble entrants being announced left and right. But arguably the biggest shock of the night was reserved for the dying seconds of the show when Roman Reigns found out who he would be defending his WWE Universal Title against.
Seconds after The Usos retained their SmackDown Tag Team Championships against The New Day, there was a knock on Reigns’ door backstage. As the champion climbed to his feet, he was greeted by Seth Rollins, complete with his maniacal trademark laugh.
Now on the 14th of January edition of the blue brand’s show, Rollins and Reigns came face to face as the tension turned up before their Royal Rumble encounter. The two men used to call each other brother as part of the Shield alongside Dean Ambrose [Jon Moxley] with Reigns and Rollins also being former WWE Tag Team Champions together.
Rollins seemed set on placating the Universal Champion early on as he acknowledged The Tribal Chief before offering a Shield era fist bump for old times sake. Reigns however retorted that the fist bump is now beneath him.

Roman Reigns followed up by telling Rollins that he wouldn’t have picked him as his opponent as if he wanted to face the biggest star possible, he’d have picked Rollins’ wife and Raw Women’s Champion, Becky Lynch.
The scene ended with The Usos trying to attack the man dubbed as ‘The Architect’ of The Shield but Rollins avoided disaster and eluded the attempted attack.
