As Roman Reigns prepares for his big title defense against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 39, there’s one name that still remains on his list: Dwayne Johnson.
Johnson, better known to some fans as The Rock, is widely considered to be the biggest crossover star in modern wrestling history. And even though Dwayne has spent more time as a movie star than as a wrestler, plenty of people still remember him as much for his wrestling moments as they do for his work in film.
Over the years, WWE has done their best to push the relationship between Reigns and Johnson as much as possible. So much so that a match between the two cousins has been rumored and teased many times but never confirmed.
Those rumors appeared once again months ago when Reigns’ opponent for WrestleMania 39 weren’t yet confirmed. A lot has changed since then, but one thing that hasn’t is Reigns wanting to face Dwayne in a wrestling ring at some point down the road.
Roman Reigns still hopes to face Dwayne Johnson in the ring
Speaking to ESPN, Roman Reigns discussed the possibility of facing Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson in the future.
“Some stuff just doesn’t have to be said, because we’ve experienced the same stuff. And I have the mindset to experience a lot of things that he’s gone through since he’s been done with wrestling. I think anybody would love to have that match. They’d be lying [if they said they didn’t].
I could ‘Tribal Chief’ you and say blah, blah. But at the end of the day, I want what’s going to be biggest for the fans, because that’s going to reflect what I was able to accomplish. And if that’s one of the biggest ones out there, let’s do it. But if not, like everything else in life, we’re going to roll with the punches.”
