Roman Reigns has given his thoughts on the anticipated move of WWE Raw to Netflix and the potential relaxation of certain restrictions that could come with that.
In just over 4 months, the flagship show will move off-network television for the first time in its 30-plus-year history and will be broadcast around the world on Netflix. As has been seen in the past with original Netflix content, the platform has no issues in producing controversial content and at times has danced the lines over what is acceptable to be broadcast due to adult themes and serious topics being addressed in its programming.
With this in mind, many fans have predicted that the PG era could be relaxed or dropped entirely with cursing being allowed and the boundaries being pushed further once more. While some are embracing the change, Reigns has seen things a different way.
Appearing alongside Paul Heyman at Bloomberg’s Power Players event, Reigns first joked that giving Heyman consistent mic time could definitely be a factor in creating non-PG content before stating that he prefers the challenge of telling stories that appeal to all:
“If we allow Paul to do Hall of Fame speeches nonstop we’ll definitely push that envelope. But for me, I don’t know, I have always enjoyed the challenges of being PG, and no offence to our predecessors and the people who came before us and the ratings that they revolved around. But to me, it’s more challenging to be able to tell these stories, and then it also allows you a broader audience to connect to, which I just really feel is always the goal, we want to reach as many people as possible.
I think there’s a fine limit to when you can kind of cross that threshold to where you push people off from the product. So I think there’s going to be a nice little range there that we can play with and push the envelope in certain senses. But I think we need to stick to our values and kind of the morals that we’ve set in place and the culture that we have now.”
Roman Reigns Responds To John Cena
Earlier in the year, John Cena gave a number of interviews to discuss his time in WWE and his upcoming retirement. Although the 16-time World Champion has been referred to on commentary as the greatest of all time, Cena disagrees with this sentiment and instead believes the honour should go to Roman Reigns. Also at the event, Roman Reigns gave his thoughts on John Cena’s comments.
