A match between Roman Reigns and Dwayne Johnson has been speculated about for well over a year. While the clash didn’t come together for WrestleMania 38, there remains a good chance that the pair will meet in California at WrestleMania 39.
However, with the Royal Rumble a little over a month away, uncertainty still reigns supreme. There has been no confirmation that Johnson will even be available for WrestleMania, let alone wrestling at the spectacular.
Roman Reigns Vs Dwayne Johnson Not Out Of The Question
While there have been suggestions that creative pitches are being made for the match, a new report has dismissed this notion. Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that the match is neither “locked in” or off the table. Meltzer added that if Dwayne Johnson is at WrestleMania, he will be wrestling Roman Reigns.
“Here’s the situation. If Dwayne Johnson is on Mania, he’s wrestling Reigns. That is not off the boards at all, nor is it a lock. So there have to be back-up plans put in place. Right now if anyone says that there is a main event locked in for Mania, they are dead wrong because nothing is for certain. Basically the idea is Dwayne Johnson has to make up his mind, and most likely a final date would best be just before the Rumble so they could start main event plans at the Rumble show.”
Roman Reigns will be back in action on the December 30th episode of Friday Night SmackDown when he teams with Sami Zayn to take on John Cena and Kevin Owens. It will be the Tribal Chief’s first match since suffering a ruptured eardrum at Survivor Series in an exchange with Owens.
