WWE has released footage of the WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns after his successful title defence at WrestleMania Backlash against Cesaro.
Reigns retained his title against the Swiss Cyborg after locking in his extremely effective Guillotine front face lock submission causing the referee to call for the bell. Reigns and Cesaro had gone back and forth in a monumental main event that lasted over twenty-seven minutes.
After the event, the WWE Network caught up with Reigns, his special counsel Paul Heyman and his right-hand man Jey Uso for their thoughts on the hard-fought win.
Reigns however snubbed reporter Megan Morant after she told the champion she would like a word, all the ‘Tribal Chief’ would offer was a rebuttal of ‘I bet you would.’ Thankfully, Heyman was there to give his thoughts instead.
Heyman stated:
“Roman Reigns is the end-all-be-all. He is the Head of the Table, he is the Tribal Chief, he is the ‘Reigns-ing’, defending, undisputed, uncontroverted, WWE Universal Heavyweight Champion. Cesaro is a qualified opponent, but he’s not a champion. That distinction belongs to Roman Reigns.”
Reigns competed in the last of five title matches at WrestleMania Backlash with four of WWE’s champions retaining their titles. The only title that did change hands was the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship that is held for the first time by a father and son. Rey and Dominik Mysterio unseated The Dirty Dawgs of Roode and Ziggler to claim the title.
Roman Reigns has held the WWE Universal Title since the end of August 2020 when he defeated The Fiend Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman in a Triple Threat match at Payback. Since then Reigns has now successfully defended the title eleven times, including in the main event of WrestleMania against Edge and Daniel Bryan.
Reigns defeated Bryan once more on SmackDown in April, thereby banishing Bryan from the blue brand seemingly for good.
