Roman Reigns has opened up about his relationship with The Rock and whether he considers his cousin to be an idol.
Following Roman Reigns’ victory over Drew McIntyre and WWE Clash At The Castle a familiar refrain went round the WWE Universe, who’s left?
For more than two years the Tribal Chief has defeated everyone who has challenged him, including some of the biggest and best names in WWE history. Reigns’ run as champion has seen him overcome Brock Lesnar, Edge, Bryan Danielson, Kevin Owens and Finn Balor as well as McIntyre among others.
However, this path of destruction is reportedly set to lead to a WrestleMania 39 showdown with The Rock, although it’s unclear which, if any, of Reigns’ titles will be on the line.
The Rock is arguably the biggest star that the wrestling world has ever seen, transcending the industry and eventually conquering Hollywood.
Speaking during an appearance on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast, the star touched on a wide range of topics including his potential match with The Great One. When asked whether he considers the Hollywood megastar an idol, Reigns laid out his ambitions to emulate the WWE legend.
“I don’t know if I looked up to him as an idol or anything. Because it’s weird because the relationship right and the connection and the family. So it’s, there has always been a great respect for what he’s done and admiration for how he’s able to do it and the charisma that he possesses in order to affect people. So like, we always knew, like, yeah, he’s special.
I mean, and he’s doing it on a different level. And, you know, you get to a point where it’s like alright, it’s gonna slow down, right, but it just, it just kept going. And he just keeps getting bigger and bigger, and his footprint just gets larger. But it was definitely one of those things where it’s like, oh, he’s doing something major and I’d like to do something similar.
I don’t know if I’ll be able to like, push the envelope that far, but I mean, he’s definitely representing our family, our bloodline. And if I can push myself to reach, you know, levels close to that, I think I’m doing alright.”
During the appearance the star also opened up about his battle with leukemia, describing how he found out about his diagnosis.
