Making his main roster debut in November 2012 at the Survivor Series pay-per-view, Roman Reigns has seen and done a lot throughout his flourishing career. ‘The Tribal Chief’ now stands as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, recently retaining the titles against Logan Paul at Crown Jewel.
Before his singles career, though, Reigns was one-third of The Shield alongside Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose. The group dominated WWE for two years, enjoying acclaimed feuds vs. Evolution, The Wyatt Family, and The Usos along the way. When they broke up in June 2014, Roman Reigns’ rise to the top of the sports entertainment giant began.
Roman Reigns Received A Permanent Scar During A Shield Match
Monday Night Raw’s February 3, 2014 broadcast saw Reigns, Rollins, and Ambrose colliding with Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Rey Mysterio, ultimately defeating the trio following an Ambrose-executed Headlock Driver on Big E. The match was a memorable one for Roman Reigns, as he received a permanent scar following a face-to-face collision with E.
The injury appears to have been caused by a running body attack. Big E flattened Reigns, causing the injury as Reigns can be seen grabbing his forehead.
Roman Reigns later detailed in an interview with WWE.com that, although he didn’t feel anything initially, the injury is a “keepsake” for his career:
“It happened in the heat of the moment in The Shield’s match vs. Rey Mysterio, Kofi Kingston, and Big E, so it didn’t really hurt per se. It was only after the stitches and once the adrenaline wore off around the time that I was going to sleep when I started to feel the pain. But in the moment, I didn’t feel anything. I think it’s bada**.
It’s a keepsake and a memory that I’ll have for doing something that I love. I’ve certainly given a few scars in my day, more than I’ve received – trust me.”
Roman Reigns and Big E have collided several times since, most recently at the 2021 Survivor Series premium live event as Reigns bested E in an interpromotional collision.
