It’s been all change for Roman Reigns in the personality department since his heel turn at SummerSlam and union with Paul Heyman, and according to the man himself there is more to come.
Reigns made his long-awaited WWE return after being absent since prior to WrestleMania in the immediate aftermath of the SummerSlam main event, attacking Braun Strowman and new WWE Universal Champion The Fiend with spears and brutal chair shots.
Reigns revealed he had made a deal with the Devil, Paul Heyman, on the subsequent episode of SmackDown – confirming his turn to the dark side.
At Payback, just one week after his return, Reigns sauntered to the ring midway through a three-way with Strowman and The Fiend after a spot where they had destroyed the ring, drilled Strowman with a spear and pinned him to capture the Universal Title.
In a Zoom call with fans (as reported and transcribed by TalkSport’s Alex McCarthy), Reigns noted that his ring attire and entrance theme will also be getting an update to match his new heel attitude.
“You can watch this Sunday, you’ll see me with my shirt off, so that would be a change” he stated.
He went on to add that once “more drastic things happen” in his current storyline arc (which includes an upcoming bout against cousin Jey Uso at Clash Of Champions) his entrance music will change to reflect that and that he has already picked his new track.
Since debuting in WWE in 2012 as part of The Shield with Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns has wrestled exclusively in body armour or a heavy vest.
The last time Reigns wrestled shirtless was back in his FCW and NXT days when he performed as Leakee.
Reigns’ entrance theme has largely remained unchanged since the debut of The Shield, with his current distinctive track a modified version of the trio’s theme that he inherited after their 2014 split.
