Roman Reigns Cleared For SmackDown Return

Roman Reigns

WWE have announced that Roman Reigns will return to SmackDown on January 7th, with Brock Lesnar already eyeing an epic showdown between the pair.

On January 1st Roman Reigns announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19. As a result he was withdrawn from WWE Day 1 on medical grounds, meaning his much-anticipated showdown with Brock Lesnar was postponed.

In Reigns’ absence Lesnar was added to the WWE Championship match, going on to win the title.

In the wake of his victory, Lesnar appeared on Monday Night Raw reunited with his advocate Paul Heyman. The man who had faithfully served as Reigns’ Special Counsel for well over a year until being fired on December 17th.

However, despite his appearance on Raw, that doesn’t mean that Lesnar has taken his eye off Reigns, promising that he would see the champion at SmackDown.

To further whet the appetite for the January 7th show, it has now been confirmed that Roman Reigns has been medically cleared, and will be in attendance to meet Lesnar.

While Lesnar may still be focused on taking out Roman Reigns he also has the small matter of a WWE Championship defence at the Royal Rumble. On Raw a Fatal-Four-Way match was held between former champion Big E, Bobby Lashley, Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens to determine a new number one contender.

When all said and done it was Lashley who emerged victorious, meaning he will finally get to take on Lesnar one-on-one.

Although the decision for Brock Lesnar to win the WWE Championship was clearly quite a late one, a recent report claimed that Big E was in fact always meant to lose the title at Day 1. In the days after the event, it came to light that original plans called for Seth Rollins to become the new champion.
