There are levels to professional wrestling and when you’re at The Head of The Table, everyone else may seem beneath you but now Roman Reigns has made it clear that he feels John Cena is levels below him.
Reigns was on Cena’a radar when the sixteen-time champion of the world made his hotly anticipated comeback to WWE at July’s Money In The Bank pay-per-view. Since then John Cena made the most of a golden opportunity when he was left holding the contract to face Roman Reigns for his WWE Universal Title at SummerSlam, signing his name on the dotted line.
Now speaking to SmackDown commentator Pat McAfee on The Pat McAfee Show, Reigns has given his candid opinions about Cena, and although he praises Cena for things he has achieved during his career, Reigns makes clear that Cena is not on The Tribal Chief’s level.
“There’s a lot of good things John Cena’s done. Obviously, Make-a-Wish, very charitable, but when it comes to our profession of sports entertainment, he’s levels below me in this game. Entertainment is storytelling, right? I’m the greatest storyteller of our generation and he’s a big name, he’s a big star, he’s a movie star now, but he, like so many other greats, they camouflage themselves, they disguise themselves. You see me every Friday night.”
Although Reigns clearly believes Cena shouldn’t be sharing his spotlight, he’s benevolent enough to suggest that there’s still room for John Cena in WWE in a more limited capacity:
“To me, if he would have just come here, promote his movies, ‘Suicide Squad, yay! It’s a good movie. Go watch it’. You can open the show, you can pep up the crowd, do that, and then I’ll stay in the main event where I belong, and I’ll close the show and we’re done.”
Reigns and Cena will go head to head at SummerSlam for the WWE Universal Championship. Also on the show, Goldberg will challenge Bobby Lashley for the WWE Title. Recently the WWE Hall Of Famer has had some critical words of his own for The All Mighty WWE Champion.
