In the main event of the season premier of WWE Friday Night SmackDown, Roman Reigns choked out Braun Strowman to retain the WWE Universal Championship.
Prior to their match, ‘The Monster Among Men’ had some unsavoury things to say to Reigns but it was ‘The Tribal Chief’ who shocked the giant and the WWE ThunderDome when he pulled out a brand new finishing manoeuvre in the form of a Guillotine Choke.
As Roman synched in the hold with delicious remorse, jaws hit the floor as the former champion tapped out and Reigns once again stood at the head of the wrestling table.
Following the bout, Roman continued his assault on Strowman with a hefty spear and vicious chair shots before the WWE Universal Championship was confronted by cousin and number one contender, Jey Uso.
After words were exchanged and Uso couldn’t bring himself to strike his cousin down when offered the chance, the tag team specialist had a change of heart following a hug and connected with a Superkick to the jaw of the man he’ll challenge for the gold on October 25.
Repaying what happened to him at the conclusion of their WWE Universal Championship Match at WWE Clash of Champions, Uso nailed Reigns with a steel chair but found himself looking at the lights courtesy of a Superman Punch.
Roman Reigns will defend the WWE Universal Championship against Jey Uso inside Hell in a Cell at WWE’s event of the same name on October 25.
Braun Strowman will now return to Monday Night Raw to continue his rivalry with Keith Lee.
