Roman Reigns Breaks Incredible 35 Year WWE Record

WWE Roman Reigns Paul Heyman

Roman Reigns’ list of accomplishments keeps on growing, and now he’s broken a WWE record that hasn’t been surpassed in 35 years.

Reigns won the Universal Championship at Payback in August of 2020 when he defeated The Fiend and Braun Strowman in a triple threat match, and as of today, has held the belt for an astounding 908 days. He added another WWE Championship to his accolades when he defeated Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38, and has remained undefeated for both belts ever since.

The 908 day reign as Universal Champion places Roman Reigns‘ championship run ahead of the 906 day run by the Glamour Girls in the 1980’s. The team received the WWE World Women’s Tag Team Championship in August of 1985 and held the belts until the 1988 edition of the Royal Rumble.

Roman Reigns Broke Hearts At The Elimination Chamber In Montreal

For months, Sami Zayn proved himself loyal to Roman Reigns and The Bloodline despite their hesitations about him. Things came crashing down at the 2023 edition of the Royal Rumble, however.

The main event of the show saw Reigns defend his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Zayn’s longtime friend Kevin Owens. Despite doing everything asked of him during the match, the tables turned after the bout when Reigns demanded that Zayn hit Owens with a chair while handcuffed to the ropes. Instead, Zayn hit Reigns in the back with the chair, severing his ties with The Bloodline. Jey Uso also shockingly walked out on the group, though he is still a reigning tag team champion alongside his brother Jimmy.

An enraged Zayn challenged Reigns to a title match at the Elimination Chamber premium live event in Montreal, QC, and fans were hoping for a redemption story similar to that of Daniel Bryan’s huge title win at WrestleMania 30 in 2014. At many points in the match, it appeared he would prevail, even hitting Reigns with a Superman Punch to add extra insult before a close nearfall.

However, following interference from The Usos and multiple referee bumps, Reigns attacked Zayn with a chair and picked up the victory, extending his title reign and allowing him to pass the Glamour Girls’ record.
