Rob Van Dam has explained why he’s not looking to wrestle in All Elite Wrestling, and why his days as a competitor in the ring might be behind him.
Rob Van Dam was announced recently as an inductee in the Class of 2021 of the WWE Hall Of Fame. After a career that saw Van Dam win the WWE and ECW Championships while in WWE. As well as holding the TNA World Championship in 2010.
Speaking to Reel Talker to promote his new movie Assault on VA-33, RVD discussed the possibility of turning up in AEW. Van Dam noted that he’s open for business:
“I just go with the flow of the universe and I always am very happy with the way that things turn out. AEW, I watch it sometimes mostly to help Katie Forbes [Van Dam’s fiancée] out, she’ll watch it. She’s up and coming, she’s learning and I’ll point stuff out.”
“There’s nothing that interests me in going there except for business. There’s nothing that makes me want to wrestle except for business. So, whereas a fan thinks maybe I would watch TV and dream of being in the ring with someone as if that’s my fantasy. That’s not the way life really works, at least not for me. It’s more like if they offered me this much to do this little then would I be interested? In which case, I’ll consider anything.”
‘The Whole F’n Show’ Rob Van Dam then explained how his career in the ring might be at an end. If that is the case, RVD says he’d be happy if that was the case.
Van Dam stated:
“Having said that, it’s likely I could be done now and not know it. […] I’d be totally fine and then the non-wrestling RVD would reap the rewards from the universe from reaching this stage. I don’t miss it like other wrestlers. I’m not hungry to be in the ring, I prefer a day off. I’ve always said that since at least, like 2001 when my career got really crazy. Even before that, even when ECW was doing four days a week. Sabu would try to book the next couple of days doing other shows. I’d be like ‘Woah, woah, I’m going home. Forget that.’ I’ve always been that way.”
