Rob Van Dam Reflects On AEW In-Ring Debut

Rob Van Dam

Rob Van Dam might not have picked up the win, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t enjoy taking to the ring in AEW.

Since winning the FTW Championship, Jack Perry has been on a one-man crusade against ECW which put him on the wrong side of Jerry Lynn. On the August 2nd episode of Dynamite, Lynn confronted Perry and said that while he can’t wrestle anymore, he knows someone who can, introducing Van Dam. This set up a match between the pair a week later.

On August 9th Van Dam pushed Perry all the way but the younger man got the win following a low blow that went unnoticed by the referee. Despite this, speaking in a backstage exclusive after the match, Van Dam said it was awesome to be back in front of a hyped-up crowd.

“Well, it felt pretty awesome going tonight, I gotta say. I count on the fans’ positive energy that they bring. I rely on connecting with them, but I’m still overwhelmed when they all have RVD signs and they’re all in unison chanting for me. It always exceeds my expectation. When that moment is real and I’m connected to them, it’s nothing but love. Love is the most powerful energy in the universe,”

Jerry Lynn added that things didn’t go to plan, but fired a shot at Perry about Van Dam trying to win the right way.

“It didn’t go his way tonight, but the way it happened, you can’t lose any face. I saw what happened, and at least with us two, we always wanted to try and prove how we were the best with wrestling and no shortcuts,”

Is Rob Van Dam Staying In AEW?

Ahead of Van Dam arriving in AEW, it was reported that he could be set to appear at All In at Wembley Stadium. However, a further report explained that Rob Van Dam had only agreed to one match with Jack Perry, seemingly ruling out a match at AEW’s United Kingdom debut.
