WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam has offered an update on whether we can expect to see him return to WWE or head to AEW.
Rob Van Dam hasn’t wrestled for a major promotion in the United States since leaving IMPACT Wrestling in September 2020. While his last real action in a WWE ring came back in August 2014.
However, that doesn’t mean that the former World Champion has been inactive. He currently oversees his own line of CBD products as well as performing for a number of smaller indie promotions whenever the mood takes him.
Despite this, especially in light of his Hall of Fame induction in 2021, fans have wondered whether Mr Monday Night might be temped to make on more run at the big time. Maybe even becoming ‘Mr Wednesday Night’ and heading to AEW.
During an appearance on the Cafe De Rene podcast with Rene Dupree, Van Dam appeared to hint that his days as a full-time performer at wrestling’s top table are over. The ECW legend said that he currently has no plans to sign with either WWE or AEW.
“I’m not sure if you said WWE or AEW, but the answer be the same on either one. Nobody. I’m not talking to anybody that’s significant. I’m still doin’ some shots I’m still wrestling, you know, but it’s indie stuff now, and usually, it’s people overseas that can they can afford RVD’s rate over the regular running indies.”
Although Van Dam did reveal that he is returning to television for a wrestling related project, not that he can give much away at present.
“The only thing I can think of as far as next time that I would expect to see me pop up on TV, not being a rerun would be — I don’t think I could talk about this. Well, let’s just say I did a show that rhymes with ‘Rawtopsy.’ One that everyone will wanna watch because it’s about one of our brothers. So but that’s supposed to be airing in spring or whatever. Always got a lot of stuff going on, but I cannot tell you where to watch for me on a wrestling show, because no plans to speak of as of right now.”
Elsewhere during the conversation, the legendary in-ring risk taker reflected on the significant cuts WWE have made to their talent roster over the last year. Looking back to his own time with the company, Van Dam surprisingly admitted that he never felt his position was untouchable, even when he was World Champion.
