Road Dogg has claimed that he’s been “begging” Tony Khan for a job to try and help with the things that “appal” him on AEW television.
In recent weeks WWE Hall of Famer Road Dogg has been less than complimentary about AEW. During an interview the Attitude Era star claimed that AEW programming is simply an indie show that’s been filmed on nice cameras.
The former Tag Team Champion has now doubled down on his criticism while also discussing a potential return to WWE. After ending his in-ring career, Road Dogg worked backstage with WWE in a variety of roles, including as a writer on SmackDown. The star was released in January 2022 alongside a number of prominent figures in NXT such as William Regal.
During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, the former New Age Outlaw said that he would love to return to WWE and more specifically NXT.
“For a while there, it was hands off and I could write the SmackDown I wanted to write, with help, of course. Then, it got back to the old corporate ways. I would love to go back to NXT. I don’t think I want to go to the main roster. I would love to go somewhere where I have something to offer. What I have to offer is making the television show sweet. I got a couple of ideas about wrestling. I feel like WWE has that. They have everything I have to offer.
I don’t know if they’d hire me back. Of course, I’d love to go back to NXT. It’s really cool down there. Shawn (Michaels) and a couple of writers I worked with on SmackDown, got a great rapport with those guys. I don’t know if I’m ready to do the ol’ Windsor knot and fit back into the suits I bought,”
Turning his attention to AEW, the D-X star said that he’s appalled by some of the things he sees in the company, while also pitching for a job.
“I’m not retired, I’m unemployed. I see things on Tony Khan’s TV show that appal me. I could help with that. I have been begging him for a job on every platform I can and I want to know the reason why he won’t hire me.”
Road Dogg’s former tag team partner Billy Gunn is currently signed to AEW where he appears alongside his sons Colten and Austin as The Gunn Club. Although mainly in a managerial role, the veteran still occasionally steps into the ring himself.
