Road Dogg has chimed in on CM Punk’s comments regarding the recent WWE walkouts, saying the incidents aren’t similar situations.
Brock Lesnar walked out of last week’s Friday Night SmackDown, sending that night’s blue brand broadcast into a frenzy before he ultimately returned. He wasn’t the first to walk out, however, with Sasha Banks and Naomi leaving during a Raw broadcast this past May.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Road Dogg has discussed the comments made by CM Punk, comparing the two situations. The AEW World Champion had noted that nothing had changed between the time he walked out to the time Sasha and Naomi did:
“Only in WWE, do you get to go, ‘No, I don’t like that’ and walk away. I’m including Brock in that as well. Like I know he came back. I don’t know what conversation was held, but you know. I also imagine everyone on social media jumping right to – CM Punk as well, let me throw his name in there to start some social media buzz.
He jumped right to, ‘Oh how come they didn’t do the same to Brock Lesnar like they did to Sasha and Naomi.’ I think it was a totally different — it’s apples and oranges, you can’t compare the two. It’s not fair to compare the two. Anything to make the WWE the devil, especially on Twitter.”
It was reported hours before last week’s SmackDown went on-air that Brock Lesnar had walked out of the company following Vince McMahon’s retirement. Although ‘The Beast’ eventually returned, his abrupt departure caused mayhem backstage.
As for Sasha Banks and Naomi, neither of the former SmackDown Women’s Champions have been seen since walking out of the company during the 16 May broadcast of Raw. They’ve reportedly been removed from the internal roster, with Banks’ lawyers supposedly being involved to obtain her release.
With Vince McMahon now out of the picture, however, there will reportedly be attempts to reconcile with the duo on WWE’s part.
