Sasha Banks and Naomi remain a hot topic of pro wrestling discourse following their WWE walkout – now, Road Dogg has joined the chat, seemingly to defend the WWE system.
Although it has been two-and-a-half months since they walked out of the company, Sasha Banks and Naomi remain a trending topic in the minds of wrestling fans.
The former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions infamously walked out of the promotion during the 16 May Raw broadcast. Every week that’s followed has brought along a new update surrounding the duo, including a report from Wrestling Inc.’s Raj Giri that alleged Sasha Banks had been let go from WWE.
Road Dogg, an acclaimed WWE Superstar in his own right and ex-WWE writer, has made some comments on the matter. Speaking on his Oh…You Didn’t Know? podcast, he compared their walkout to when ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin did the same thing in 2002:
“Yeah, look, at first, I talked when his first happened, I talked to Bubba [Ray Dudley] and David LaGreca on Busted Open Radio. And I told them I thought it was a work, and the reason I thought it was a work was because they were talking about it so much on TV. Well, then I find out it’s not a work and they’re suspending them and they’re talking horribly about them on TV and I thought that’s why it was a work because they were talking about them on TV like that. Like I think they did the same thing when Stone Cold left, you know what I mean? It was but I don’t think it’s beneficial for anybody.”
The former multi-time Tag Team Champion continued, as Road Dogg sang the praises of both Sasha Banks and Naomi, explaining how easy to work with they were. However, he wasn’t quite as keen on external parties commenting on the “rigged” WWE system:
“Now look, I know people, especially young people, go, ‘Oh, system’s rigged against them.’ Well, no, not really, the system sets it all up for success, and they will never put you in a situation that to bury you. You may feel buried because you got the ego and you’d have your feelings get hurt. But that’s not what’s happening. It’s, it’s creative, professional wrestling decisions, it’s not to be taken seriously and live by.
And I know people get on [at] me about that, because I say that a lot. Like it’s just pro wrestling, like it is in real life, I know I love it. It’s been my life since I was born, and will probably be my life until I die. And I have a passion for it that is unmatched.
But if you’ve kept your priorities straight, it’s just pro wrestling, man. I’m making money, I’m on top of the world, we’re the tag champs, look, the tag champs [have] kind of been doomed since they brought them in on every show because there’s just not enough strong talent to have a great tag division without doing a bunch of bastard tags and doing that.”
Sasha Banks and Naomi have, for the most part, remained quiet on the subject ever since. Sasha has been spotted in public on a couple of occasions, sporting a new hair colour, while Naomi has been announced as starring in an upcoming edition of Kevin Hart’s Celebrity Game Face.
Both remain suspended from WWE indefinitely and without pay. Sasha Banks has reportedly obtained the help of her lawyers to speed up the process of her WWE release. Where, exactly, she’ll go post-WWE remains unknown, as a successful career would await her in either pro wrestling or acting.
