Roman Reigns has enjoyed a remarkable run of dominance at the top of WWE since returning from a short hiatus in August 2020.
Upon returning to the fold, Reigns established himself as the Tribal Chief and moved away from his previous character. Reigns now leads the strongest faction that WWE has seen in several years, while he has been Universal Champion for almost 900 days while he has held the WWE Championship for almost 300.
Speaking on his Oh You Didn’t Know podcast, Road Dogg has now claimed a former champion should be running the women’s roster in a similar fashion.
Asuka Compared To Roman Reigns
Asuka arrived in WWE with a hefty reputation off the back of her work in Japan. The star was quickly established as one of the most impressive performers on the NXT roster and followed that up with a record-breaking run as NXT Women’s Champion spanning 522 days. However, since moving to the main roster in 2017 she hasn’t always enjoyed the smoothest of runs and has occasionally got lost in the shuffle.
While discussing the star, Road Dogg stated that she should be seen in the same light as Roman Reigns, before praising her as the best women’s wrestler in the world.
“Look, I think, as far as presentation, in-ring skills, dare I say promo skills, just because I love what she does and how she represents herself via her verbal skills. You know, I just love it. And I think everybody else does too. I think probably [she] should be the Roman Reigns of women’s wrestling right now. And that’s just a fact and, that’s not a fact, I’m sorry, it’s just my opinion.
But I think even and I know the big argument is well if she can’t cut a promo well, you know, domestically. I think we’re past that as a culture as a society. I think it’s totally okay if she spoke in her native tongue and we subtitled it. I think it would be totally fine how we do it now where she just goes off and you don’t know what she’s saying, but you know, she’s saying something that ain’t nice to you, you know what I mean?
And so I don’t know, I think her work and her grasp mentally of the you know, just putting together a match and keeping her character strong in the match yet being selfless and selling for everybody, probably the best female wrestler in the world.
And, look, I know, you know, people will doubt that. I always say Zoey Stark is one of the best female wrestlers I’ve ever seen. And I firmly believe that but I believe it’s more from an athletic standpoint and her in ring, her in-ring work supersedes who she is. And I think Asuka’s in-ring work matches who she is, and so it just makes her that magnetic, you know, the magnanimous star is what I was looking for. Yeah, she’s incredible, Asuka is incredible.”
Asuka hasn’t wrestled since the December 12th episode of Monday Night Raw where she was defeated by Rhea Ripley. Meanwhile, Roman Reigns will be back in action at the Royal Rumble when he defends his Undisputed WWE Universal Title against Kevin Owens.
