Billy Gunn is back scissoring The Acclaimed – and it’s all fine, according to Gunn’s old partner (in a completely different way) Road Dogg!
Although The Acclaimed and Gunn Club broke up a few weeks ago on AEW Dynamite, they’ve partially reunited, with Billy Gunn joining back up with Max Caster and Anthony Bowens. Betrayed by his sons Austin and Colten, ‘The Bad A**’ realigned with the AEW World Tag Team Championships contenders in the only way he could – scissoring!
Speaking on his Oh…You Didn’t Know? podcast, Road Dogg has discussed the reunion, stating that he has no issues with his old New Age Outlaws partner finding some new friends:
“But The Ass Boys and ‘Mr A**’ had to be separated sooner rather than later. And now you can go on because with Billy, those kids couldn’t be heels and they didn’t have any room to grow, because Billy’s star power overshadowed them, and that’s all there is to it. That’s nobody’s fault, they had to get Billy away from them so they had the kids turn on him. But look at those guys, [they] are really over right now.
And I think, you know, had I gotten a job with AEW, I think I could have helped The Acclaimed because they’re one group that I think could easily do what answers the question that was asked earlier about, ‘How come the [New Age Outlaws] intro was so popular and so long-lasting?’ And so, you know, these kids, The Acclaimed can do the same thing. And I would love to help them, you know what I mean? Because I think they can, I think they just need a few pointers, and I think they got it, you know what I mean?
They’re on fire right now and they’re only going to get greater, so Billy being involved with those guys is awesome to me. And you know, Billy does a job there too, he does what’s creatively written for him and he helps coach the kids and he helps train people and he does a lot [of] other [things] than just do his little TV show storylines but you know, I’m proud of Billy, I’m happy where he’s at. So scissor away, my friend.”
The Acclaimed and Gunn Club were aligned for a number of months before they went their separate ways. Billy Gunn and Anthony Bowens, in particular, had built up a great rapport with each other, to the point that the multi-time World Tag Team Champion regularly wheeled Bowens to the ring when he was stuck in a wheelchair.
Bowens and Max Caster will now challenge Swerve In Our Glory for the AEW World Tag Team Championships at All Out. Austin and Colten Gunn, meanwhile, are now under the managerial services of Stokely Hathaway.
