SmackDown Superstar Ridge Holland suffered an injury during his tag team match on the WWE Day 1 Kickoff Show.
In recent weeks, Ridge Holland has been serving as protégé to veteran Superstar Sheamus. The opening bout of the Day 1 Kickoff Show saw the pair team up to take on the duo of Ricochet and Cesaro after tension had been building between the men on SmackDown.
While former tag teammates Sheamus and Cesaro stared each other down to begin the match, Sheamus immediately tagged in Ridge Holland before any action took place. After Cesaro delivered a backbreaker to his opponent, Ricochet entered the ring to deliver some tandem offense, being lifted up by Cesaro to flip onto a prone Ridge Holland. However, the move did not go to plan as Ricochet’s knee made brutal contact with Ridge Holland’s nose.
The former rugby player held his face and was dripping blood as he tagged out of the match and exited the ring, and commentary announced after a while that he would not be returning as he suffered what they called a “broken nose.”
Sheamus wrestled the remainder of the match without his partner, and despite being outnumbered, was able to gain a victory after disposing of Ricochet with White Noise outside the ring and pinning Cesaro with a Brogue Kick.

Ridge Holland’s injury is another in a string of issues plaguing the pay-per-view as earlier in the day, WWE made the shock announcement that Roman Reigns would be absent from Day 1 after testing positive for COVID-19. Reigns was set to defend his Universal Championship against Brock Lesnar, but Lesnar has instead been added to the WWE Championship match, making it a fatal-five-way.
