Riddle Reveals Vince McMahon Thought He Was “A Goof” At First

WWE Raw Tag Team Champion Riddle has recalled the initial reaction to his character when he was called up the main roster, saying that “nobody got it”.

Riddle became a permanent member of the main roster when Kurt Angle brought him to SmackDown in June 2020. While a guest on Corey Graves’ ‘After The Bell’ podcast, the ‘Original Bro’ said that nobody got him when he arrived on the blue brand, including Vince McMahon who called him a “goof”.

“And at first, they didn’t get it. Nobody got it, Vince [McMahon] didn’t get it. He was like, ‘You’re a goof’ and I went, ‘Well I’m a goof that can kick your a** dude.’ I know I’m goofy but like, when I get in that ring, I turn it up and at first he didn’t see it but now I think they see the in-ring ability with the entertainment side of it.”

In the months since, the company has got behind Riddle and he went on to win the WWE United States Championship from Bobby Lashley in a match also involving John Morrison. He held the title for two months until losing it to Sheamus at WrestleMania 37.

Soon after, he convinced Randy Orton to form a tag team with him which he named ‘RK-Bro’. The unlikely duo defeated AJ Styles and Omos for the Raw Tag Team Championships at this year’s SummerSlam.
